Surround Sound System Installation Resources

CONTINUED FROM surround sound setup

  • If you are unsure of how to proceed at any point, get a professional involved IMMEDIATELY to avoid expensive, time consuming mistakes and errors.

  • Follow Monster Cable Hookup and Learning diagrams to connect your HDTV receiver, DVD player, other AV source components, speakers, subwoofer, etc (using the best possible type of audio, video, and speaker cables) to the appropriate inputs and outputs on the back of the surround receiver.

  • Place/mount rear surround and/or bookshelf speakers on speaker stands or wall mounts.

  • Plug all AC power cords into either the switched and un-switched power outlets on the back of the receiver or the power center.

  • Run the video monitor out from your receiver and let the cable dangle to about where it will be connected to the back of your television.  Once connected to the back of the TV, this will send all video signals through the surround receiver and back out to a single video input on your television.

  • Place your television into the furniture, connecting the dangling video cable into the appropriate video input on back of the television.  Now your surround receiver can send out all video source signals (and on screen display, if applicable) to a single video cable input on the back of your TV.

  • Plug in and power up your power center.  Power up individual components.

  • Program any learning or programmable remotes to minimize remote control juggling act.

  • Once you've got all your surround sound speakers and subwoofer where you want them located, run the TEST TONE function on your surround sound receiver to perfectly balance the sound pressure levels of all channels within the room.  We recommend that you use a sound level meter, or SPL meter, to achieve the most accurate settings within your balanced speaker levels.

  • DON'T move the television stand or entertainment center permanently back until you are sure that everything is connected and operating properly.

  • ALWAYS get help when moving or re-locate heavy and bulky electronic equipment and furniture!
