UNLESS you are setting up an in-wall, in-ceiling, on-wall, or floorstanding tower speaker surround sound system, you will probably need to purchase at least a pair of speaker stands, especially if you are lacking available open shelf space in/on your entertainment center or TV stand for setting up the front left and right speakers. Small bookshelf speakers and miniature satellite speakers need to be located/aimed at approximately ear-level when
seated for the best surround sound listening experience because the treble and midrange frequencies that they produce are highly-directional, unlike low frequency bass which is omni-directional. That's why you can
place a powered subwoofer on the floor virtually anywhere in the room and still not be able to tell where all the deep bass is coming from, although you will want to experiment a bit with sub location to achieve the best possible sound.
